CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Lacrosse team earned a sensational 24-1 victory over Cal Lutheran on Saturday evening.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens are 4-0 overall and 3-0 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens had 14 different players in te scoring colum. They were led by Maria Favret, Catherine Faucette, Carly Katzman, and Piper Higgins, who each earned a hat trick throughout the game. Birdie Hawkins and Zaina Sayeed also had a multi-goal game, each netting two. Also contributing to the win, Shelby Stanton, Taylor Glanville, Madelyn Katz, Ruby Gibbs, Scarlett Lang, Nora Leblanc, Caili Cross, and Izzy Sabatino each scored one.
Pomona-Pitzer started strong in the first half and earned 15 goals in the first half, eight in the first period and seven in the second. Favret netted the first goal of the game with 13:49 left on the clock. Higgins soon followed and Hawkins and Favret then netted goals, one with 11:48 and one on a player advantage with 9:52 left on the clock. The Sagehens further pressured the opposing defenses with Leblanc and Sayeed netting one with 6:20 and one with 2:42 left on the clock. Katz continued the Pomona-Pitzer storm of offensive and scored a goal with 1:21 left on the clock. The Sagehens closed out the first period with a striking 8-0 lead. The Sagehens continued to break through the Regal defense through the rest of the first half. Katzman started the scoring in the second period with a goal from a free position shot with 12:06 left on the clock. Faucette and Cross followed by scoring goals with 9:56 and 8:21 left on the clock. Hawkins and Glanville both furthered the Pomona-Pitzer offensive campaign and netted goals with 8:21 and 4:30 left on the clock to bring the Sagehens to the lead 13-0. Katzman closed out the half with two back-to-back goals, one from a free position shot with 2:06 and one with 0:39 left on the clock. The Sagehens entered halftime with a staggering 15-0 lead over the Regals.
Pomona-Pitzer kept playing strong into the third period as they continued pushing against the Cal Lutheran defenses. Higgins started the scoring in the second half with two back-to-back goals by earning one with a player advantage and 13:37 and one with 10:45 left on the clock. Sabatino and Stanton continued by securing goals, one with 7:53 and one with a player advantage with 4:29 left on the clock. Gibbs widened the goal gap by netting a goal with 2:30 left on the clock to bring the Sagehens ahead 20-0. With the Regals left unable to convert, Pomona-Pitzer furthered their lead to 20-0 as they entered the final quarter. Lang started the scoring in the final quarter with a goal from a free position shot with 14:09 left on the clock. While the Regals managed to break past the Sagehen defenses, Favret responded by scoring a goal with 7:01 left on the clock. Faucette followed suit and earned two back-to-back goals, one with 5:52 and one on a player advantage with 2:25 left on the clock. Pomona-Pitzer concluded the match with a sensational 24-1 victory over Cal Lutheran.
