Baseball Sweeps Chicago After Pair of Saturday Wins at Home

CLAREMONT, Calif. — Pomona-Pitzer baseball secured a 3-0 sweep over the University of Chicago with a pair of wins Saturday at Alumni Field.
 
Season Impact: The wins put the Sagehens at 10-4 on the season, including 2-1 in SCIAC play. 
 
Sagehens 14, Chicago 5
 
Tanner DeGrazia led the Sagehens with four RBI in game one of Saturday's doubleheader while Kai Gonzaga and Jack Gold each added two. Will Polishuk earned the win after getting the start from the mound and going 5.0 innings with five strikeouts. 
 
Gold opened the scoring with a two-run shot in the bottom of the first before Greg Pierantoni and Gonzaga scored in the third to put the team up 4-1. The Sagehens then scored seven in the fifth inning to take a 10-2 lead. DeGrazia homered to lead off the inning before adding a three-RBI double in the same frame. 
 
Will Parker blasted a three-run double to left center in the seventh. Pomona-Pitzer eventually came away with the 14-5 win.
 
Sagehens 25, Chicago 5
 
James Quintero posted six RBI in game three with the Maroons, going 4-of-5 from the plate. Gold added three RBI while Brody Ruyle and Landon Hu notched two RBI apiece. Lucas Dennis earned the win from the mound, going 5.0 IP with three strikeouts and giving up just one run. 
 
After taking a 2-0 lead in the first, the Sagehens scored nine in the second to go up 11-0. Pierantoni, Gold, DeGrazia, Cooper Berry, Quintero and Hu recorded RBI in the frame. Pomona-Pitzer scored 10 more in the third, capped by a Quintero grand slam, to go up 21-1. 
 
The Sagehens then took a 25-1 advantage after Ruyle and Shawn Loui tallied RBI in the fourth, Quintero hit a solo shot in the fifth and Dillehay earned a hit-by-pitch RBI in the sixth. Pomona-Pitzer came away with the 25-5 win in seven innings. 
 
Up Next: The Sagehens will take on Bridgewater College tomorrow, Sunday, Mar. 1 at 1:00 p.m. PT.
