CLAREMONT CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Lacrosse team earned a 17-10 victory over Chicago on Friday night.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens continue their season 3-0 overall and 2-0 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens were led by Taylor Glanville and Piper Higgins, who each earned a four-goal haul by netting four for the win. Madeleine Trapp also earned a hat-trick by securing three and Catherine Faucette and Caili Cross each earned two goals. Also contributing to the win, Birdie Hawkins and Carly Katzman each scored one.
The Sagehens started strong in the first quarter and established anearly lead, earning eight goals in the first half. Glanville started the scoring for the match by netting a goal with a player advantage with 12:57 left on the clock. Katzman and Higgins followed and scored goals with 10:36 and 7:46 left on the clock, being the Sagehens ahead of Chicago 4-0. Trapp and Higgins furthered the Sagehen lead and picked up goals with 2:00 and 0:36 left on the clock, respectively. Pomona-Pitzer concluded the first quarter with an impressive 5-0 lead. Chicago made themselves known in the second period and began to break through the Sagehen defenses. However, Glanville replied by securing a goal with 7:06 left on the clock. To retain the Pomona-Pitzer lead, Glanville and Trapp followed with goals with 3:01 and 1:31 left on the clock. Despite the swift maneuvers from Chicago, the Sagehens entered halftime ahead 8-5.
The Sagehens kept playing well through the third period. While Chicago attempted to further narrow the score gap, strategic goals from Hawkins and Higgins with 9:36 and 6:33 left on the clock to keep Pomona-Pitzer ahead 10-7. Soon after, Faucette and Glanville netted a goal with 5:37 and 4:38 left on the clock. While the Panthers were able to further breach the Sagehen defenses, Pomona-Pitzer kept their heading 12-8 as they entered the final quarter. Chicago attempted to catch up to the Sagehens in the fourth quarter. While the opposing team managed to earn a few goals, Higgins and Cross replied by scoring a goal with 12:58 and one on a player advantage with 12:04 left on the clock, respectively. Cross, Faucette, and Trapp followed by earning goals with 6:15, 4:52, and 1:34 left on the clock. Due to strong efforts on all fronts, the Sagehens closed out the game with a 17-10 victory over Chicago.
