Lacrosse Earns 16-6 Victory Over Chapman

ORANGE, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Lacrosse team secured an impressive 16-6 victory over Chapman on Wednesday night.

Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens start their season 2-0 overall and 2-0 in SCIAC play. 

The Sagehens were led by Nora LeBlanc, Caili Cross, and Carly Katzman, who each earned a hat-trick by securing three goals throughout the game. Also contributing to the win, Taylor Glanville and Piper Higgins each netted two, and Maria FavretBirdie Hawkins, and Catherine Faucette each scored one. 
 
The Sagehens started strong in the first quarter and established an early lead. Higgins netted the first goal of the match with 14:18 left on the clock. While Chapman managed to breach the Sagehen defenses, Leblanc replied with two back-to-back goals, one off a free position shot with 7:47 and the other with 6:11 left on the clock. Katzman followed and secured a goal with 3:43 left on the clock to bring Pomona-Pitzer ahead 4-1. Despite more advancements from the Panthers, the Sagehens continued their heading and concluded the first period ahead 4-2. The Sagehens continued to break through the Chapman defenses through the rest of the first half. Chapman struck first in the period, but Glanville responded with a goal with 12:15 left on the clock. Cross and Katzman continued the Pomona-Pitzer campaign by netting three more goals. Notably, Cross picked up two goals from free position shots with 10:41 and 8:34 left on the clock. The Sagehens entered halftime with a notable 8-4 lead over the Panthers.

The Sagehens kept playing strong into the third period as they continued pressuring the Chapman defenses. Higgins started the scoring in the second half by earning a free position goal with 12:56 left on the clock. Glanville and Katzman followed, and each then netted a goal. Leblanc and Cross secured goals with 6:08 and 3:00 left on the clock. Faucette continued the Pomona-Pitzer efforts with a free position goal with 2:03 left on the clock. While the Panthers were unable to find another goal, the Sagehens furthered their lead 14-4 as they entered the final quarter. Chapman attempted to catch up in the fourth quarter in response to the Pomona-Pitzer offensive maneuvers in the fourth period. While the Panthers managed to earn a few goals, Hawkins and Favret responded by scoring goals with 4:38 and 2:23 left on the clock, respectively. Thanks to strong efforts on all fronts, the Sagehens closed out the electric game with an impressive 16-6 victory over Chapman.
