LOS ANGELES, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis team opened up SCIAC play with a 7-0 win over Occidental on Saturday morning at the McKinnion Family Tennis Center.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 1-1 on the year and 1-0 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens earned a win in all nine matches against the Tigers and started with a clean sweep of the doubles competition taking all three of the opening matches.
Lauren Rha and Leticia Bazua Vasquez earned a win at the No. 1 doubles spot with a 6-3 victory while
Annique Varty and
Aditi Gulati earned a 6-1 win at No. 2 and
Sofia Kalyva along with partner
Tessa Ellingson won 6-2 at No. 3.
The Sagehens carried their momentum into singles play with no match going into a third set. Rha took a quick 6-1, 6-0 win at the No. 1 spot while
Mireille Chedid-Daley followed with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2.
Bazua Vazquez took a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 3 while
Meha Chaudhary won at the No. 4 spot by the scores of 6-3, 6-3.
The final two matches of the day ended with the same scoreline as
Ishya Bhavsar and
Annique Varty won at No. 5 and No. 6 singles with a score of 6-2, 6-1.
