CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Pomona-Pitzer Softball team opened its 2026 season with a 4–1 home loss to SCIAC rival CMS on Friday afternoon at Wig Beach Field.

Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens begin the season at 0–1 overall and 0–1 in SCIAC play.

The Sagehens were led offensively by Natalie Murguia, who went 2-for-2 at the plate with a run scored. Summer Gibson and Kylie Liu each added a hit, with Liu driving in the lone RBI for Pomona-Pitzer.

Audrey Reimers got the start in the circle for the Sagehens and turned in a strong outing, tossing five innings while allowing just one earned run on four hits. Nyla Springer provided two innings of relief, surrendering two runs.

Pomona-Pitzer answered in the bottom half of the inning when Liu drove in Murguia to cut the deficit to 2–1.

CMS added insurance in the seventh, plating two more runs on a double to right-center field to extend the lead to 4–1.

The Sagehens were unable to mount a rally in the bottom of the seventh and fell by a final score of 4–1.
