Box Score 1 CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Sagehens defeated Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 4-3 in game one Saturday on the road. Game two was suspended due to darkness and will pick up with the score of 4-4 in extra innings. The continuation date is TBD. The series remains at 1-1.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 1–1 overall and 1–1 in SCIAC play.
Sagehens 4, CMS 3
The Sagehens were led offensively by Natalie Murguia, who went 2-for-3 at the plate with a run scored and an RBI. Kylie Liu and Gianna Phillips each added two hits, with Liu driving in two runs and Phillips tallying an RBI. Sadie Huryn, Violet Burnham, and Sophia Roberts also recorded a hit in the contest. Nyla Springer picked up the W in the circle, throwing 6.2 innings and Ava Bautista recorded her first save of her collegiate career.
The Sagehens broke through in the top of the third inning with a four-hit frame. Murguia started the rally with a single, followed by a base hit from Huryn. After a catcher's interference loaded the bases, Liu delivered a two-RBI single to right field to plate Huryn and Murguia. Phillips followed with a ground-rule double to left center, driving in Liu and extending the lead to 3–0. Pomona-Pitzer added an insurance run in the sixth. Violet Burnham tripled to left center and later scored on an RBI single up the middle from Murguia to push the advantage to 4–0. CMS threatened late, scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh on a pair of singles and a two-RBI double to cut the deficit to one. Bautista entered in relief with two outs and recorded the final out to secure the 4–3 win.
