CLAREMONT, Calif. — Pomona-Pitzer baseball defeated Whitworth 15-13 thanks to a Jack Gold walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the ninth. 
 
Season Impact: The win puts the Sagehens at 4-0 on the season. 
 
Trailing 13-11 with one out and the bases loaded, Gold drilled a 1-0 pitch over the right field wall to give the Sagehens the dramatic 15-13 win. Gold finished with seven RBI after going 3-of-6 from the plate. Kai Gonzaga added three RBI while Will Parker had two and Greg Pierantoni added one. 

Max Brunngraber shined on the mound in his first start of the season, going 5.1 innings without a hit and striking out six before giving up just two hits on the game. Eli Della Bitta (1-0) was credited with the win, recording a strikeout in 1.0 IP. 
 
Pomona-Pitzer jumped out to a 6-0 lead through the first four innings, with Pierantoni driving in Lateef Wakil on a sac fly in the first to open the scoring. Gonzaga blasted a two-run homer in the fourth before Gold notched an RBI single to put the Sagehens up 6-0. 
 
Whitworth responded in the sixth, scoring six in the frame to tie the game. But Pomona-Pitzer added two runs in the bottom of the frame to go back up 8-6. Gold tallied an RBI single in the seventh to later put the Sagehens up 10-6. 
 
The Pirates, though, came roaring back to take a 13-10 lead with five runs in the eighth and two in the ninth. Gonzaga hit an RBI double in the bottom of the frame to get a run back and make it 13-11. Three batters later, Gold blasted his walk-off grand slam to right field with the ball just staying fair to give the Sagehens the 15-13 win.
