LA JOLLA, Calif. — Pomona-Pitzer women's water polo fell 19-6 to Long Beach State in its opening game at the Triton Invitational Friday afternoon.
Brienz Lang scored two goals to lead the Sagehens, while
Ava Gurney,
Paityn Richardson,
Layla Szymczak and
Mia Amberger each added one.
The Beach got out to a 2-0 start before Lang found the back of the net. Long Beach State scored the following four, but a score from Amberger and another from Lang brought the Sagehens within three, 6-3, at the half.
The third period saw a pair of scores from the Sagehens, with Szymczak and Richardson finding the cage, but Pomona-Pitzer trailed 12-5 heading into the fourth.
Ava Gurney scored with 1:12 remaining but the Beach came away with the 19-6 victory.
