CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Basketball team earned their second consecutive SCIAC win with their 63-41 victory over Caltech on Wednesday night at Voelkel Gymnasium.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improved to 12-7 overall and 7-3 in SCIAC play.
Pomona-Pitzer was led by
Emily Lee and
Jadyn Lee who each had eight points in the win.
Ali Bennett tallied seven while
Sara Chicco,
Shea Joko,
Anna Revill, and
Sofia Robel each contributed six. The Sagehens had the advantage in the paint outscoring the Beavers 34-14 down low while also earning 10 second chance points and 11 points via the fast break.
The Sagehens and Beavers had a tight first quarter with Caltech having their highest scoring quarter of the night matching the Sagehens with 15 points. Pomona-Pitzer jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead and held that lead up 13-6 with five minutes to play in the first, but Caltech battled back and tied the game at 15-15 with the final shot of the first.
Pomona-Pitzer started to widen the gap with 21 points in the second quarter. The Sagehens quickly grew the lead to nine points at 26-17 and too their largest lead of the first half with their final basket by Robel to take a 36-26 lead heading into halftime.
The Sagehen defense stepped up in the second half holding the beavers to under 10 points in both the third and fourth quarters. The Sagehens began to blow the game open adding 10 points to their lead in the third up 53-33 heading into the final quarter of play. With the game well in hand, Pomona-Pitzer added 10 more points in the fourth to keep their 20-point victory intact for their seventh SCIAC win of the season.
