PASADENA, Calif. — Pomona-Pitzer men's basketball defeated Caltech 83-76 on the road Wednesday night.
Season Impact: The win puts the Sagehens at 8-10 on the season, including 4-6 in SCIAC play.
Sam Lind and
Charlie Hutchison paced Pomona-Pitzer offensively with 18 points apiece, with Lind going 4-of-5 from three.
Connor Fitzgerald pitched in 12 points while
Kyle Jasper scored 12 and
Reagan Cornish had nine.
Hutchison hit a midrange jumper before a Caltech three-pointer put the Beavers up 14-13 five minutes into the contest. A
Bryson Bryker trey and Jasper lay-in later gave the Sagehens a 30-22 lead. Caltech fought its way back, though, taking a 41-37 lead into the locker room.
The Beavers led by five, 53-48, eight minutes into the second half before Fitzgerald hit a three and
Cooper Bladow scored a pair of baskets to tie things up at 55. Fitzgerald hit two more threes to later put Pomona-Pitzer up six, 66-60. Teams then traded baskets, with a Jasper triple giving the Sagehens a 71-66 advantage with 3:47 to go.
Pomona-Pitzer managed to keep the Beavers at bay down the stretch, despite Caltech cutting its deficit, 80-76, with 28 seconds left. Diekmann hit a pair of free throws and Lind added one as the Sagehens came away with the 83-76 win.
