Regals Snap Sagehens’ Four-Game Win Streak, Sagehens Lose 55-63

CLAREMONT, Calif. — Pomona-Pitzer women's basketball lost 55-63 against Cal Lutheran Wednesday night at home. 

Season Impact: The loss puts the Sagehens at 10-7 on the season, including 5-3 in SCIAC play.

Jadyn Lee led the Sagehens with 17 points on 8-of-17 shooting, adding four assists and four rebounds in the win. Sara Chicco was a major spark from beyond the arc, finishing with 16 points while knocking down three triples, and Abigail Homan contributed a double-digit effort with 12 points and a team-high six rebounds. Emily Lee chipped in six points, while Sofia Robel added four points and five rebounds off the bench.

The Sagehens trailed early but found momentum late in the opening quarter, closing the period on a 12–2 run to pull within three at 17–14. Chicco knocked down two first-quarter threes to spark the offense, while Homan and Robel scored key buckets in the paint as the Sagehens settled in after a slow start. The Sagehens continued to chip away in the second quarter behind J. Lee, who scored ten points in the frame with repeated finishes in the paint to keep the Sagehens within striking distance. Despite Cal Lutheran hitting timely threes to briefly extend the lead, Pomona-Pitzer closed the half strong and cut the deficit to just one, trailing 27–26 at the break.

The Sagehens erased a seven-point deficit in the third quarter with Chicco's three free throws and key baskets from Homan to knot the game. The Sagehens briefly grabbed the lead before Cal Lutheran answered late, sending the game into the final quarter tied at 40–40. The Sagehens kept pace early behind buckets from J. Lee and timely threes from E. Lee and Chicco, trimming the deficit to as few as five midway through the quarter. Cal Lutheran pulled away late with free throws and transition scores, despite the Sagehens continuing to generate offense through ball movement and second-chance opportunities.
