Sagehens Advance To 4-0, Defeat Linfield 3-1

MCMINNVILLE, OR. – The Sagehens come away with a 3-1 win against Linfield University on Saturday afternoon.

Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens progress to an undefeated 4-0-0 season, matching their total amount of victories in the 2024 season.

Before the 7' mark, the Sagehens, consistently striking first, scored the first goal shot by midfielder Aidan MacLennan off an assist from defender Niclas Ulrich. Up 1-0, the Sagehens maintained their momentum and nearly doubled their advantage in the 16' minute when Ulrich found space for a shot, but his strike was denied by Linfield goalkeeper. The Wildcats responded in the 22' minute to level the score at 1-1, and both sides traded chances. The Sagehens found their breakthrough just before halftime as they scored in the 43' minute to head into the locker room with a 2-1 advantage. Goalkeeper Will Brooks made two crucial first-half saves, including a stop on a low-driven shot in the 38th minute, to preserve the lead. The second half opened with intensity as both teams pushed forward. By the 67' minute, four yellow cards had been shown. Linfield's defense held firm through a number of Sagehen attempts, including shots from Colin Eugster (60') and MacLennan (85' and 86'), all turned away by the Linfield goalkeeper. Persistence paid off in the 88' minute, when midfielder Enzo Dal Bo buried the insurance goal off an assist from Kaili Shoop to seal the 3-1 victory.

Up Next: The Sagehens will open up SCIAC conference play on the road against University of Redlands on Saturday Sept. 13th at 7:30 PM.
