CLAREMONT, Calif. — Pomona-Pitzer women's volleyball defeated Caltech in straight sets (25-15, 25-16, 25-17) Friday night at Voelkel Gymnasium in its first SCIAC contest of the season.
Season Impact: The win puts the Sagehens at 6-5 on the season, including 1-0 in SCIAC play.
Tene Ariyo and
Anna Krebs led the Sagehen offense with seven kills apiece, while
Nicole Rabadi and
CC Porter each added six.
Corrina Benson posted 20 digs while
Paige Butler dished out a team-high 19 assists.
Pomona-Pitzer took control early in the first set, with back-to-back Ariyo kills capping a 6-0 run and making it 18-8 Sagehens. Rabadi later sealed the 25-15 set one win with a kill of her own. Rabadi, Butler and
Alex Besteman traded kills to make it 20-13 in the second, before a Krebs kill sealed the 25-16 win for the Sagehens in set two.
Sophia Lee posted back-to-back service aces to make it 5-0 Sagehens early in set three. Another ace from
Alena Yang later gave Pomona-Pitzer a 19-10 advantage.
Ella Mesard registered a kill late as the Sagehens went on to win set three, 25-17.
