PROVIDENCE, RI – The Pomona-Pitzer men's water polo team started the Bruno Invite with a win and a loss after a 20-3 victory over Connecticut College and a 14-10 loss to Brown on Saturday afternoon at the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center.
Season Impact: With the results, the Sagehens continue their season at 3-6 overall.
Pomona-Pitzer 20, Connecticut 3
The Sagehens were led by Darragh Flanders, Ryan Kreutzkamp and Tommy Ryan who each netted a hat trick with three goals. Chase Barman also had a multigoal game with two and John Possman, John Shafer, Hudson Schneider, Nico Perna, Theo Bass, Conrad Hugar, Nick Grandinetti, Alex Erickson and Jaden Winters had one each.
The Sagehens started off strong against Connecticut with 9 first half goals with seven goals in the first and two in the second quarter. The Camels tried to catch up as the Sagehens stole the lead 5-1 in the first quarter, but two additional goals from Ryan helped Pomona-Pitzer cement their edge. Pomona-Pitzer concluded the first half with two more goals from Flanders and Hugar in the second quarter to take the lead 9-1 heading into halftime.
After building their lead, the Sagehens managed to secure eleven goals in the third and fourth quarters. Schneider started the scoring in the second half with Shafer, Ryan, Erickson, Kreutzkamp and Possman netting goals through the end of the third. The Sagehens finished the third quarter up 16-2.
The Sagehens proceeded to score four more goals from Bass, Barman, Kreutzkamp and Grandinetti to cruise to a big win on their first day of the Bruno Invite.
Pomona-Pitzer 10, Brown 14
The Sagehens were led by Indigo Lee, Chase Barman, and Nico Perna who each netted two goals. Jake Lee, Darragh Flanders, Alden Pfau and Zach Whitfield each also scored a goal.
Pomona-Pitzer struggled to keep up with Brown early, scoring three first half goals with two in the first and one in the second quarter. Brown struck first but Lee and Barman secured the first goals for Pomona-Pitzer, despite the Bears continuing to break through their defenses. The Sagehens ended the first quarter trailing Brown 7-2. Whitfield dented the twine with 4:46 left on the clock and scored another goal for the Sagehens, down 3-7. Pomona-Pitzer finished the first half behind 3-8.
The Sagehens continued to power through the second half and managed to secure seven goals in the third and fourth quarters. Indigo Lee started the scoring in the second half with Barman following suit with another goal for the Sagehens. The quarter concluded with Pomona-Pitzer still behind 13-6.
Pomona-Pitzer continued playing hard with four more goals from Perna, Lee, Flanders and Pfau to close out the first day of the Bruno Invite with a record of 1-1.
