LOS ANGELES, CA. – The Sagehens secured a 2-1 win on the road over Occidental on Saturday evening.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens are now 5-0-2 overall and 1-0-1 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens found their rhythm midway through the first half. After early chances from Guy Fuchs in the 5' and 9' minutes and Adam Leikin in the 8' minute, the Sagehens broke through in the 29' minute. Aidan MacLennan fired a high shot into the right side of the net off a setup from Mori Miller, giving the Sagehens a 1-0 lead. The first half closed with the Sagehens holding a 1-0 advantage. The momentum carried into the second half. In the 46' minute, Leikin nearly doubled the lead with a shot just wide, and minutes later, Sammy Faham added another chance. The breakthrough came in the 61' minute when MacLennan struck again, this time with a low finish to the left side, extending the lead to 2-0. Occidental pulled one back on a penalty in the 68' minute, but Broad and the Sagehen back line absorbed the pressure. Broad registered another key stop in the 54' minute and denied a low strike in the 82' minute to preserve the win. It was a physical match with nine yellow cards and one red card issued, but the Sagehens maintained their composure to come out on top.
