THOUSAND OAKS, CA – The Sagehens battled back in the second half to secure a 2-1 comeback victory over Cal Lutheran on Saturday morning at home.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 5-0-0 overall and 1-0 in SCIAC play.
Cal Lutheran struck first in the opening half with a goal in the 11' minute. The Sagehens worked hard to respond, creating several offensive opportunities. Brooke Bailey fired a shot on goal in the 20' minute and Ellie Peterson followed with another chance just a minute later, both saved by the Kingsmen goalkeeper. Despite the pressure, the Sagehens went into the break trailing 1-0. The Sagehens came out strong in the second half and continued to push the pace. Sabina Peterson Rajalingam had another attempt in the 52' minute and Hannah Hong threatened with shots in the 64' and 79' minutes. The breakthrough came in the 82' minute when Vivian Rojas Collins unleashed a laser of a free kick from just over 30 yards out, drilling it past the keeper to tie the match 1-1. The Sagehens kept the momentum, as Bailey, Hong, and Imogen Roy Jenkyn each fired shots within a five-minute span, keeping the Cal Lutheran defense on its heels. Finally, in the 89' minute with just 0:49 seconds of gameplay left, Bailey capitalized with the game-winning goal, giving the Sagehens a 2-1 lead in the closing moments. The Sagehens secured the comeback victory with a strong second half performance with goals from Rojas Collins and Bailey.
