Sagehens Tie 1-1 With Occidental

CLAREMONT, CA – The Sagehens fought back in the second half to secure a 1-1 comeback tie against Occidental on Saturday afternoon at home.

Season Impact: With the tie, the Sagehens continue their season 5-0-1 overall and 1-0-1 in SCIAC play.

Occidental struck first in the opening half with a goal at the 1' minute mark. The Sagehens did not back down and worked hard to respond as they created several opportunities to score. Notably, midfielders Ellie Peterson and Rae Kamikawa each shot on the goal at the 8' and 36' minute marks, their shots were saved by the Tigers goalkeeper. The Sagehen defense remained strong with goalkeeper Patricia DePalma blocking a goal attempt at the 35' minute mark. Despite a strong effort, the Sagehens went into halftime behind 1-0.
The Sagehens entered the second half with energy as they pushed against the Tigers defense. Pomona-Pitzer created several opportunities to score. Hannah Hong had an early shot in the period at the 46' minute mark, which was saved by the opposing goalkeeper. Midfielder Anjali Nuggehalli then broke through the Tiger defense and scored a goal at the 84' minute mark and tied the score 1-1. The Sagehens maintained their energy through the rest of the half and continued pushing against Occidental through the end of the period. The game concluded in a 1-1 tie.
