Men’s Water Polo Opens Conference Play With 17-6 Win at Caltech

PASADENA Calif. — The Pomona-Pitzer men's water polo team defeated Caltech 17-6 in its first SCIAC game of the season.

Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve their season record to 2-5 overall, including 1-0 in conference action.

The Sagehens were led by Jake Lee and Jaden Winters who each netted hat-tricks with three goals for the win. Micah Webber, Harrison Siegel and Alex Erickson also scored two goals each with Ryan Kreutzkamp, Alden Pfau, Emerson LaPorta, Nick Grandinetti, and Logan Colman each scoring one.

Pomona-Pitzer started strong against the Beavers with Winters scoring the first goal of the game with 7:49 left on the clock. The Sagehens continued to dominate through the end of the first quarter with two more goals from Jake Lee with 6:15 and 3:38 left on the clock. The Sagehens finished the first quarter leading 3-0.

The Sagehens continued dominating into the second period with a penalty goal from Logan Coleman. While the Beavers managed to find a few moments to score, Pomona-Pitzer again broke through Caltech's defense and secured three more goals. The Sagehens continued the momentum as they finished the second quarter with a 7-1 lead.

Despite Caltech adding goals early in the third, Pomona-Pitzer carried on by scoring seven more goals through the end of the period. Their balanced attacks proved fruitful as they finished the third quarter with their largest lead of the night, 14-4.

Each side brought energy to the fourth quarter, as both Pomona-Pitzer and Caltech were able to score. However, the Sagehens' lead proved too difficult for the Beavers to narrow. With three more goals, the Sagehens maintained their 17-6 lead with 2:40 left on the clock, ultimately securing the 17-6 win.

Up Next: The Sagehens will face Connecticut College and Brown University at the Bruno Invite on Saturday, September 20, starting at 6:30 AM PT.
