CLAREMONT, CA. – The Sagehens battled to a scoreless draw against Cal Lutheran after 90 minutes of hard-fought play on Wednesday at home.
Season Impact: With the tie, the Sagehens are now 4-0-2 overall and 0-0-1 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens started with early defensive stops as goalie Jasper Broad collected a save just 54 seconds into the match and added another at the 19' mark to deny a dangerous shot on goal. On the offensive side, Sammy Faham fired just wide left in the 14' minute before Aidan MacLennan sent another attempt high at the 21' mark. The Sagehens generated more opportunities midway through the half. Jack Yang struck high right in the 25' minute, and Niclas Ulrich followed in the 37' minute with a shot that carried just over the bar. Guy Fuchs also added pressure with a high attempt at the 33' mark. The defense remained steady as Broad picked up his third save of the half in the 28' minute, keeping the Kingsmen off the board. The Sagehens entered halftime locked 0-0 with the Kingsmen after a tightly contested first 45 minutes.
The second half opened and the defensive tone continued. The Sagehens had strong chances with MacLennan, Fuchs, and Faham each testing the Kingsmen keeper. The final 15 minutes saw increased intensity with yellow cards on both sides, but neither team could find the breakthrough goal as the Sagehens and Kingsmen closed out a 0-0 draw.
