Izzo Scored First Collegiate Goal In 3-0 Shutout against UCSC

CLAREMONT, CA – The Sagehens continue their shutout streak against UC Santa Cruz with a winning score of 3-0 on Saturday morning in Claremont.

Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens continue their season 4-0-0 overall.

The Sagehens and Banana Slugs fought hard in the first half. Neither team seemed to have an advantage until forward Brooke Bailey made the first goal attempt at the 20' minute mark that went out past the top left. Following her lead, midfielders Kendrick Dahlin and Lucia Page Sander each attempted to score at the 20' and 21' minute marks that went out left and saved by the UCSC goalie. The first half finished in a heated stalemate 0-0 with the Sagehens outshooting the Banana Slugs 5-2.

The Sagehen defense remained steadfast going into the second half. Goalie Patricia DePalma led the charge by saving a goal at the 45' minute mark. Midfielder Ava Watanabe continued the intense energy from the Sagehens by scoring the first goal of the match at the 48' minute mark, giving the Sagehens the 1-0 lead. After multiple shots from each side, defender Avery Izzo scored her first collegiate goal at the 59' minute mark. Soon after, midfielder Kendrick Dahlin broke through UC Santa Cruz's defense and scored the third goal Sagehen goal at the 63' minute mark. The Sagehens ended the game with a shutout 3-0 victory over the Banana Slugs.
