Sagehens Start Strong, 3-0 Win Over North Central

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Sagehens started their season strong in their game against North Central College with a winning score of 3-0 on Friday afternoon at home.

Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens start their season 1-0-0 overall.

The Sagehens put up a strong effort in the first half against the Cardinals. The Sagehens defense stood sturdy with goalie Patricia DePalma making crucial saves at the 16' and 19' minute marks. Forward Hannah Hong then broke through North Central's defense with the first goal of the season just before the 22' minute mark. The Sagehens created several offensive opportunities, though they struggled to hit their mark. Toward the end of the half, midfielder Ellie Peterson had a close attempt at the 42' minute mark that went wide left. The Sagehens ended the competitive half with the lead 1-0.

The intensity on both sides went up in the second half and the Sagehens pushed forward aggressively. The Sagehens maintained their defense with goalie Hadley Johnson making seemingly back-to-back saves at the 56', 62', and 66' minute marks. The offense did not wane after the leading first half. Freshman midfielder Sabina Peterson Rajalingam continued the momentum scoring her first collegiate goal, the second goal of the game at the 60' minute mark. Midfielder Ava Watanabe then secured a dominating third goal at the 77' minute mark which was also her first career goal.

The Sagehens ended the game with a shutout 3-0 victory over the Cardinals.
