Baseball Gets Past Redlands 4-2, Moves on in SCIAC Tournament

CLAREMONT, Calif. — No. 2 seed Pomona-Pitzer baseball defeated No. 4 seed Redlands 4-2 Friday afternoon at Alumni Field to stay alive and move on in the SCIAC Tournament. 
 
Season Impact: The Sagehens will now play the loser of the No. 1 seed La Verne and No. 3 CMS matchup tomorrow, Saturday, May 10. The win puts Pomona-Pitzer at 28-14 on the season. 
 
Jack Wiessinger paced the team with 8.1 innings on the mound, giving up just two runs with three strikeouts. Eamonn Woods earned the save after striking out one. Xavier Hattenburg drove in a team-high two runs while Cooper Berry and Tanner DeGrazia each added an RBI. 
 
Redlands got on the board first in the opening frame with an RBI single to take a 1-0 lead. But the Sagehens responded in the fourth, as Berry drove in Jack Gold on an RBI double to right field. Hattenburg then singled up the middle to score DeGrazia and Berry, giving Pomona-Pitzer a 3-1 lead. 
 
DeGrazia notched his RBI in the fifth with a double to left field, as JC Ng scored to add to the Sagehens' lead, 4-1. Wiessinger continued to deal from the mound, as Redlands only scored one more the rest of the way in the top of the ninth. Woods closed out the game from the mound as Pomona-Pitzer came away with the 4-2 victory. 
 
Up Next: The Sagehens will take on the loser of the No. 1 seed La Verne and No. 3 CMS matchup tomorrow, Saturday, May 10 with a chance to move on to the championship round.
