ROCK ISLAND, IL. – The No. 1 Pomona-Pitzer women's water polo team punched their ticket to their fourth consecutive Division III Water Polo National Championship with their 19-8 win over Washington & Jefferson in the Semifinals on Saturday afternoon at Anne Greve Lund Natatorium.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improved to 24-10 overall.
The Sagehens were led by
Mia Amberger who had a team-high five goals in the win.
Kaylee Stigar and
Sydney Bowns also had a hat-trick with three goals while
Brienz Lang, and
Gabby Lewis had two and
Sydney Bianchi,
Ayva Magna,
Layla Szymczak, and
Paityn Richardson had one.
The Sagehens started out well with the first four goals of the game from Stigar, Amberger, and Bowns to take a 4-0 lead before Washington & Jefferson scored two goals late to make it 4-2 heading into the second quarter.
Amberger started out with two goals to open the second along with a goal from Richardson to outscore the Presidents 3-2 in the second to take an 7-4 lead into halftime.
The Sagehens pulled away in the third quarter with an eight-goal third from Stigar, Amberger, Lang, Lewis and Magna to take a commanding 15-5 lead over Washington & Jefferson heading into the fourth quarter.
Pomona-Pitzer continued to attack in the fourth and added four more to their total to advance to the Division III National Championship.
