Sagehens Earn Fourth-Straight SCIAC Tournament Title

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Lacrosse team earned its fourth-straight SCIAC Tournament Championship with their 15-12 win over CMS on Saturday afternoon at Merritt Field.
 
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens earned their fourth consecutive SCIAC Championship and earn the automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament with an 18-2 overall record.
 
The Sagehens were led by Hannah Gough and Caili Cross who each netted a hat-trick with three goals. Shoshi Henderson and Sydney Landauer had two goals while Gwynn Sullivan, Fiona Lewis, Taylor Glanville, Madelyn Katz, and River Buechner had one.
 
The Sagehens started with the first goal of the day, but CMS took the lead early with back-to-back goals to take a 2-1 lead. The Sagehens fired back with goals from Lewis and Buechner to reclaim the lead at 3-2 to end the first quarter.
 
The Sagehens stayed on top for the majority of the first half with CMS answering early in the second quarter. Cross, Landauer, Sullivan, and Henderson got the lead up to 8-4 in the second quarter and after two goals from CMS, Katz ended the first half with a goal to put the Sagehens up 9-6 at halftime.
 
Pomona-Pitzer came out in the second half with a low scoring third quarter that saw goals from just Gough, and Glanville to make it 11-7 heading into the fourth.
 
CMS battled back in the final quarter and got within one goal at 12-11 with 8:15 left to play. Henderson put the lead back up to two goals at 13-11 and after another CMS goal, Cross scored the dagger to make it 14-12 with 2:07 left in the fourth to give the Sagehens enough to capture their fourth-straight SCIAC Title.
 
Up Next: The Sagehens will continue their season as they enter the NCAA Tournament next weekend.
