CLAREMONT, CA. -- The Pomona-Pitzer women's lacrosse team advanced to the SCIAC Semifinal matchup after their 22-6 win against Occidental on Wednesday night at Merritt Field.
Season Impact: with the win, the Sagehens improved to 16-2 overall.
The Sagehens were led by
Fiona Lewis with five goals in the win while
Sydney Landauer and
Shoshi Henderson also netted hat-tricks with four and three.Â
Hannah Gough,
Zaina Sayeed and
Taylor Glanville had two goals in the win while
Maria Favret,
Grace Tighe,
Caroline Welch, and
Caili Cross had one.
From the opening draw, Pomona-Pitzer jumped out to a 7–1 lead after the first quarter to quickly take control of the game. Gough, Lewis, Henderson, Cross and Landauer got on the board in the first with the Sagehens up 8-1 heading into the second.
The second quarter offered more of the same. The Sagehens added six goals to their total while allowing just one, building a 13–2 lead heading into halftime.
After the break, the Sagehens showed no signs of slowing. A five-goal third quarter extended the lead to 18–3, effectively sealing the result before the final 15 minutes. The Sagehens still managed to outscore Occidental 4-3 in the fourth to advance to the SCIAC tournament Championship seeking their fourth-straight title.
