Brooke Bullis Called Game

CLAREMONT, CA – The Pomona-Pitzer softball team defeated Occidental on a walk-off in the bottom of the seventh thanks to Brooke Bullis, winning 9–8 in a high-stakes SCIAC matchup. With the win, the Sagehens are now in third place in the SCIAC standings..

Season Impact: The Sagehens improve to 22–13 overall and 11–8 in SCIAC conference play.

Emily Hurtado, Brooke Bullis, Bella Carreon, Kylie Liu, and Summer Gibson led the Sagehen offense that totaled 13 hits. Bullis delivered in the biggest moment of the game, blasting a walk-off solo home run in the seventh to seal the win. She finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Hurtado also came through in clutch moments, driving in three runs, including a two-RBI double in the first. Carreon was a steady presence at the top of the lineup, going 2-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored. Gibson went 3-for-2 with a run and an RBI.

The Sagehens fell behind 2–0 early but responded with a six-run bottom of the first, fueled by five straight base runners and timely hitting throughout the lineup. The rally started with Carreon getting hit by the first pitch of the game, followed by back to back singles from Waddell and Liu making the bases loaded for Hurtado as she ripped a double to left center scoring two runs. With the score being tied at two, Bullis singled and scored another pair of runs. The momentum kept going for the Sagehens as they ended the first inning on top 6-2.

By the bottom of the second, the Sagehens had a five run lead over the Tigers but they  chipped away at the lead, tying the game at 8–8 in the top of the seventh after capitalizing on an error and RBI single.

With the game tied in the bottom of the seventh, Bullis stepped to the plate and crushed a no-doubt home run to left, sending the Sagehen dugout into celebration.

Up Next: The Sagehens will finish out the series at Occidental on May 3rd at 12:00pm and 2:00pm, with a postseason berth on the line.
