CLAREMONT, CA. – The #1 Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis team beat the No. 2 ranked CMS Athenas 4-0 to claim the SCIAC Tournament Championship on Saturday afternoon at the Pauley Tennis Complex.

The Sagehens claimed the SCIAC Tournament Championship for the second year in a row with their sixth SCIAC Tournament Championship in program history.  The Sagehens have gone undefeated in SCIAC play in the 2025 season for the first time since 2010 and improved to 13-7 overall.

Much like their first meeting this season, the Sagehens  got out to a strong start claiming the doubles point to go up 1-0. No. 3 Lauren Rha and Leticia Bazua Vazquez set the tone taking a 6-4 win. No. 2 Nyakiriri Kanefu and Amelia Poor put up a tough battle but came up short losing 6-2. With the doubles point on the line, No. 1 Marissa Markey and Angie Zhou came back from being down 4-1 to take a 7-5 win and claim the point for the team.

With the momentum from doubles, the Sagehens started off singles competition strong with a quick win at No. 1 by Zhou 6-3, 6-0 to put the Hens up 2-0. Rha got off to a fast start at No. 2 taking the first set with ease and continued to battle, coming up with a 6-0, 7-5 win putting the Hens up 3-0.

The Championship clinch came at No. 4 singles with Markey winning a contested second set 6-3, 7-5 to claim the SCIAC Tournament Championship title for Sagehens as they stormed the court to celebrate their win for the second straight year.

Poor, Bazua Vazquez, and Kanefu's matches all went unfinished as they were all on solid footing in third sets.

Up Next: The Sagehens will now enter the NCAA Tournament as the automatic qualifier from the SCIAC and await their draw.
