CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Water Polo team earned a pair of victories on Senior Day as they defeated SCIAC opponent Chapman 22-9 and non-conference opponent Concordia Irvine 15-3 on Saturday afternoon at Haldeman Pool.
Season Impact: with the win, the Sagehens move to 17-10 overall and 10- in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens were led by
Brienz Lang who netted five goals in the win. Also earning a hat-trick was
Mia Amberger with three goals while Syndey Bianchi had two and
Natalie Sullivan Wu,
Kaylee Stigar,
Ayva Magna,
Gabby Lewis,
Nikki Rubottom,
Bella McGowan,
Layla Szymczak,
Sara Archer,
Lulu Gaither,
Chloe Mei Espinosa, and
Paityn Richardson had one.
A very high scoring game for the Sagehens in their win over Chapman as they counted down with goals in the quarters with 7 in the first, 6 in the second, 5 in the third and 4 in the fourth.
Chapman stayed with the Sagehens in the first after a very high scoring first quarter with both teams combining for 13 total goals.
Richardson started the scoring, but Chapman came back with two goals to go up 2-1 and hand the Sagehens their first time trailing a SCIAC opponent all season long. Pomona-Pitzer ended the first with goals from Lang, Gaither, Amberger and Szymczak to take a 7-6 lead into the second.
The Sagehens started to pull away in the second quarter with six more goals to their total while limiting Chapman to just two. Espinosa, Lang, Lewis, Sullivan Wu, McGowan and Bianchi all contributed on offense for the Sagehens to build up a 13-8 lead heading into halftime.
The Sagehen defense shut out the Panthers in the third quarter as Lang, Stigar, Bianchi, and Magna netted goals to put this one comfortably away at 18-8 heading into the fourth. The Sagehens continued to add more goals in the final quarter from Amberger, Rubottom and Archer to stay undefeated in SCIAC play with the win over Chapman.

The Sagehens were led by Lang again who netted four goals in the win while Szymczak also netted a hat-trick with three.
Mia Amberger,
Lulu Gaither and
Sydney Bowns had two goals each with
Gabby Lewis and Richardson getting one.
The Sagehens had a close battle in the first quarter against the Eagles but jumped out to a lead with the opening two goals from Amberger and Gaither to play from in front 2-0. Concordia came back with two goals, but Szymczak scored a late goal to put the Sagehen sup 3-2 heading into the second.
Pomona-Pitzer broke the game open in the second with a 4-0 quarter. Gaither, Lang, Amberger and Szymczak all got on the board to put the Sagehens up 7-2 heading into halftime.
Richardson, Lang, Bowns, Szymczak and Lewis poured it on the in the third to make it 13-2 while Lang completed her hat-trick in the fourth with two more goals as the Sagehens picked up two more lobsided wins at home.
