LA VERNE, Calif. —
JC Ng set a new program record in career runs scored as Pomona-Pitzer baseball fell 11-4 in a non-conference loss at La Verne Tuesday afternoon.
Season Impact: The loss puts the Sagehens at 24-13 on the season, including 13-8 in SCIAC play.
Tuesday's contest was a makeup non-conference game, as the Sagehens saw matchups against Pacific Lutheran on Feb. 14 and Willamette on Mar. 7 canceled due to rain. The loss against the Leopards had no impact on either teams' SCIAC record.
Ng launched a solo homer in the first inning to set the new program career runs scored record at 215. The senior broke Jose Cortez's mark of 214 that stood since 2003.
Cooper Berry led the Sagehen bats with two RBI after going 1-for-1 from the plate, while Ng and
Tanner DeGrazia each posted one RBI.
William Wallace was credited with the loss from the mound after going 4.0 innings.
Ng's homer put the Sagehens on the board first, while a Berry RBI single to left made it 2-0 Sagehens in the first. La Verne, though, answered with a run in the bottom of the frame and five more in the second to take a 6-2 advantage.
DeGrazia drove
Jack Gold home with an RBI single to left in the third, bringing Pomona-Pitzer within three at 6-3. But the Leopards scored five more unanswered to take an 11-3 lead heading into the ninth. Berry hit a sac fly in the top of the ninth inning to score Ng. But La Verne came away with the 11-4 non-conference victory.
Up Next: Pomona-Pitzer will take on Occidental in its final series of the regular season. The Sagehens will first host the Tigers on Friday, May 2, at 3:00 p.m. PT.
