Sagehens Fall To CMS In The First Game Of The Series

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer softball team fell short to CMS 2-4 on the road. This was the first game of the three game series.

Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens are 20-12 overall and 9-7 in SCIAC conference play.

Bella Careon and Kylie Liu lead the offense for the Sagehens, both with an RBI. Carreon went 1-for-2 and Liu went 1-for-3 with a walk. Morgan Groves and Devin Waddell both hit a double and Waddell pitched all seven innings for the Sagehens, giving up seven hits and struck out two batters.

After a silent three innings from both sides, the Sagehens struck first in the top of the fourth when Carreon drove in Violet Burnham with an RBI single, but CMS immediately responded in the bottom half. With the bases loaded and one out, the Athenas ripped a two-RBI single to left, sparking a four-run rally that was aided by two costly Sagehen errors. CMS was up 4–1 by the end of the fourth inning.

The Sagehens chipped away in the top of the fifth with an RBI single from Kylie Liu, but CMS's defense held strong the rest of the way. The Sagehens stranded ten runners, including two in the top of the seventh and could not come back.

Up Next:  The Sagehens will finish out the series with a double header at home against CMS. It will be the Sagehen's senior day and they will honor: Bella Carreon, Emily Hurtado, Deviin Waddell, Heather Hennigh, and Morgan Groves. The first pitch is scheduled at 12:00 p.m. PT but depending on the weather the times may change.
