CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Lacrosse team defeated SCIAC rival CMS 15-6 on Saturday afternoon at Zinda Field.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improved to 13-2 overall and perfect at 9-0 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens were led by
Sydney Landauer who had a game-high four goals.
Gwynn Sullivan,
Taylor Glanville, and
River Buechner had two while
Maria Favret,
Chloe Denhart,
Fiona Lewis,
Grace Tighe, and
Caili Cross had one.
The Sagehens started down to the Athenas with CMS earning the first goal of the game to take a 1-0 lead. The Sagehens responded well and ended the first quarter with six unanswered goals from Buechner, Sullivan, Glanville, Landauer and Favret to take a 6-1 lead into the second.
Pomona-Pitzer started the scoring in the second from Glanville to go up 7-1 before CMS had back-to-back goals to cut the lead down to 7-3 with 10:36 left to play before halftime. The Sagehens did a good job recovering those two goals from CMS with the final two goals of the half from Cross and Denhart to take a 9-3 lead into halftime.
The scoring slowed down for the Sagehens in the third quarter with just one goal coming out of halftime. The Athenas got the first two goals of the second half to cut the lead down to 9-5 and Sullivan earned another goal to end the third with the Sagehens up 10-5.
The Sagehens got back to their scoring ways with five goals in the fourth from Buechner, Tighe, Landauer, and Lewis as the Sagehens completed the regular season sweep over CMS.
