CLAREMONT, Calif. —
JC Ng and
Jack Gold tallied four RBI apiece to lead Pomona-Pitzer baseball to a 15-5 win in eight innings over Caltech at home Friday afternoon.
Season Impact: The win puts the Sagehens at 19-11 on the season, including 9-7 in SCIAC play.
Ng went 3-4 from the plate with a homer and a double with three runs scored. Gold batted 2-3 with a homer of his own.
Lateef Wakil batted two runners in for the Sagehens with three runs scored while
Sammy Lee also had two RBI.
Max Brunngraber (5-2) earned the complete game win from the mound, striking out three in 8.0 innings.
Pomona-Pitzer wasted no time jumping out ahead, with an Ng RBI double putting the team up 1-0 in the first. Gold homered later in the inning with Ng on base before Ng blasted a two-run shot of his own in the second, giving the Sagehens a 5-0 lead. The Beavers got a run back in the third before Pomona-Pitzer poured in three more runs in the bottom of the frame. Lee, Wakil and Gold each tallied RBI to give the Sagehens an 8-1 advantage.
Lee posted an RBI double in the fourth while
Jimmy Legg hit a sac fly RBI, giving Pomona-Pitzer a 10-2 lead. Caltech responded, though, with three runs in the top of the fifth. Wakil and Berry each notched RBI in the sixth and seventh innings to put the Sagehens back up seven, 12-5.
In the bottom of the eighth, Ng worked a bases-loaded walk before Gold was hit by a pitch in the following at-bat.
Greg Pierantoni was then walked, putting the 10-run rule into effect as the Sagehens came away with the 15-5 win.
Up Next: The Sagehens will travel to Pasadena to take on the Beavers in a doubleheader tomorrow, Saturday, Apr. 19 for games two and three of the series. First pitch is slated for 11:00 a.m. PT.
