LA VERNE, Calif. — Pomona-Pitzer women's water polo cruised to a 24-7 victory at La Verne Wednesday afternoon.
Season Impact: The win propels the Sagehens' season record to 20-10 overall, including 12-0 in SCIAC play.
Kaylee Stigar,
Brienz Lang and
Mia Amberger led Pomona-Pitzer with three goals apiece, while
Ayva Magna,
Lisbon Zeigler,
Layla Szymczak,
Sophia Berger and
Chloe Mei Espinosa each added two.
Thea Pine tallied three saves on goal while
Ella Debenham had two.
The Sagehens scored the game's first five scores, as an Espinosa goal put the team up 5-0. Stigar and Magna scored just before the end of the first period, as Pomona-Pitzer led 7-1 after one. Lang, Szymczak, Zeigler and
Sydney Bianchi each scored in the second quarter as the Sagehens took a 13-2 lead at the half.
Pomona-Pitzer scored seven unanswered to start the third quarter, with goals from Stigar, Amberger, Magna, Diana Hatter,
Sara Archer and
Natalie Sullivan Wu. The Leopards added one just before the end of the third, as the Sagehens led 20-3 heading into the final quarter.
Espinosa, Zeigler and Berger each scored goals in the final quarter, with Pomona-Pitzer coming away with the convincing 24-7 win.
