REDLANDS, CA –The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis team cruised to a dominant 7-0 road victory over the University of Redlands on Friday. The Sagehens swept through doubles and singles without dropping a match, putting together a complete team performance.
The Sagehens set the tone early in doubles. At No. 1, Angie Zhou and Marissa Markey shut out their opponents with a 6-0 win. Amelia Poor and Nyakiriri Kanefu followed with a convincing 6-1 victory at No. 2, while Lauren Rha and Leticia Bazua Vazquez clinched the sweep at No. 3 with a 6-4 win.
In singles play, the Sagehens didn't let up. Angie Zhou led the way at No. 1 with a 6-4, 6-1 win. Lauren Rha earned a gritty three-set victory at No. 2, rallying for a 6-7, 6-4, 10-7 decision. Nyakiriri Kanefu continued the momentum at No. 3 with a dominant 6-1, 6-2 win. Marissa Markey took care of business at No. 4, winning 6-2, 6-2. Amelia Poor battled through a tight match at No. 5, coming out on top 6-4, 7-5. At No. 6, Sofia Kalyva capped off the shutout with a 6-4, 6-3 victory.
