CLAREMONT, Calif. — The Pomona-Pitzer baseball team fell 15-4 to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in game one of the two teams' three-game series Friday afternoon on the road.
Season Impact: The loss drops the Sagehens to 16-11 on the season, including 6-7 in SCIAC play.
Greg Pierantoni led the Pomona-Pitzer bats with a pair of RBI after going 2-4 from the plate.
JC Ng also tallied two RBI while
Tanner DeGrazia,
Sammy Lee,
Xavier Hattenburg and
Jack Gold each tallied hits.
Jack Wiessinger (4-3) was credited with the loss after going 4.0 innings from the mound with two strikeouts and four hits.
The Sagehens got on the board first, with Pierantoni singling to right field and sending
Lateef Wakil home in the top of the first inning. The Stags, though, scored five unanswered to go up 5-1 in the fourth.
Pomona-Pitzer fought its way back in the top of the fifth, with a Ng double to right driving DeGrazia and
Jimmy Legg home. Pierantoni then sent Wakil home again with a double to right of his own, making it 5-4. But CMS kept the Sagehens at bay the rest of the game, going on to score 10 unanswered runs to take the 15-4 win in eight innings.
Up Next: Pomona-Pitzer will host the Stags in a doubleheader tomorrow, Saturday, Apr. 12 at Alumni Field. First pitch for game two of the series is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. PT.
