Baseball Cruises Past Wisconsin-La Crosse at Alumni Field

CLAREMONT, Calif. — The Pomona-Pitzer baseball team cruised to a 13-5 win over Wisconsin-La Crosse Sunday afternoon at Alumni Field.
 
Season Impact: The win propels the Sagehens to 10-4 on the season, including 4-2 in SCIAC play. 
 
Jack Gold led Pomona-Pitzer on offense with four hits and two RBIs. Cooper Berry had a game-high four RBIs after going 2-5 from the plate while JC Ng also went 2-5 with a pair of RBIs. In total, the Sagehens posted 12 hits while holding the Eagles to five. Ethan Collins earned the win on the mound after giving up just three hits in 5.0 innings of work. 
 
UWL got on the board first in the opening frame, scoring four on three RBIs and an error. The Sagehens started to come back in the bottom of the inning, though, earning three runs off of RBIs from Berry and Hattenburg. Berry then launched a three-run homer in the second to give Pomona-Pitzer a 6-4 lead. 
 
The Sagehens kept their foot on the gas, with Ng hitting a two-run shot in the third and Sammy Lee driving in Lateef Wakil with a sac fly in the fourth. Gold then launched a two-run homer of his own in the fifth, as Pomona-Pitzer took an 11-4 advantage. 
 
Greg Pierantoni scored on a wild pitch in the sixth before Hattenburg scored on an error in the eighth, putting the Sagehens up 13-4. The Eagles got one run back in the ninth, but Pomona-Pitzer came away with the 13-5 win. 
 
Up Next: The Sagehens will take on Tufts University in a three-game series next weekend at Alumni Field, playing a doubleheader on Saturday, Mar. 15, and a third game on Sunday, Mar. 16. Game one of Saturday's doubleheader is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. PT.
