PASADENA, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Water Polo team defeated SCIAC opponent Caltech 19-3 on Saturday morning.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improved to 7-6 overall and 2-0 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens were led by
Bella McGowan and
Paityn Richardson who each netted a hat-trick with three goals in the win.
Lisbon Zeigler,
Gabby Lewis, and
Sara Archer had two while
Natalie Sullivan Wu,
Ayva Magna,
Layla Szymczak, Sophia Begrer,
Ava Gurney,
Lauren Valentin, and
Natalie Ascorra had one.
A clean 4-0 start for Pomona-Pitzer in the first quarter as Richardson, Lewis, Sullivan Wu, and Zeigler got on the board in the first quarter. The Sagehens extended their lead to 5-0 after a goal by Richardson before Caltech got on the board with a goal to make it 5-1. Richardson, McGowan, and Archer scored goals in the second quarter as the Sagehens went into halftime up 10-2.
Pomona-Pitzer kept scoring in the third with their highest scoring quarter of the day with seven goals. Gurney, Szymczak, Zeigler, Lewis, Valentin, Begrer and Ascorra all chipped in with goals to extend the lead to 17-2 heading into the fourth.
After taking a large lead, the Sagehens added two more in the fourth from Magna and Archer to cap off a 19-goal road win for their second SCIAC win of the year.
