Sagehens Split Wednesday Doubleheader With Princeton And La Verne

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women;s Water Polo team split their Wednesday doubleheader with a 14-5 loss to Princeton and a __ win over SCIAC opponent La Verne on Wedensday night at Haldeman Pool.
 
Season Impact: with the split, the Sagehens move to 8-7 overall and 3-0 in SCIAC play.

The Sagehens had five different goal scorers as Sydney Bianchi, Gabby Lewis, Lulu Gaither, Chloe Mei Espinosa, and Kaylee Stigar all scored in the loss.
 
Pomona-Pitzer opened the scoring with a goal form Stigar but then was shut out for the remainder of the first half with Princeton adding 5 goals to take a 5-1 lead at the break.
 
The Sagehens started the second half with a goal from Lewis to cut the lead down to 5-2, but the Tigers responded again with five-straight scores to take a 10-2 lead in the third.  
 
The Sagehens added a late third quarter goal from Bianchi and then two more goals in the fourth from Gaither and Espinosa but ultimately fell to Princeton in game one of their Wednesday doubleheader.
 
Pomona-Pitzer 21, La Verne 10
 
The Sagehens were led by Bella McGowan who had three goals in the win. Stigar, Brienz Lang, Layla Szymczak, and Sydney Bowns all had two while Bianchi, Natalie Sullivan Wu, Ayva Magna, Lisbon Zeigler, Diana Hatter, Mia Amberger, Ava Gurney, Gaither, Espinosa and Paityn Richardson all had one.
 
Pomona-Pitzer responded well in the second game after they got out to a 5-0 start over the Leopards in the first quarter after goals from Amberger, Lang, Zeigler, and McGowan. La Verne responded with their only goal of the quarter while Bowns ended the first with a goal to take a 6-1 lead in the second.
 
Magna, Gaither, Stigar and Lang all netted goals in the second to get the lead up to 10-2 with Szymczak, Bianchi, Richardson, and Bowns ended the half to put the Sagehens up 15-3 at the break.
 
La Verne matched the Sagehens on goals in the third as both teams netted three goals each. Gurney, Espinosa and Sullivan Wu got on the score sheet for the Sagehens in the third while McGowan and Hatter ended the night with goals to keep the Sagehens undefeated in SCIAC play.
 
Up Next: The Sagehens will next head to Chapman on March 15th at 11:00 a.m.
