CLAREMONT, Calif. — The Pomona-Pitzer baseball team rolled to a doubleheader sweep over MIT Saturday at Alumni Field, winning game one 18-9 and game two 17-7.

Season Impact: The wins improve the Sagehens' record to 9-4 on the season, including 4-2 in SCIAC play.

Sagehens 18, MIT 9

Nine different Sagehens recorded a hit in game one as Pomona-Pitzer got out to an early 15-0 lead and never looked back. Jack Gold led the team with five RBIs after going 3-for-4 from the plate, while Lateef Wakil and Greg Pierantoni each tallied a pair of RBIs. Gold, Wakil, JC Ng, Berry and Sammy Lee each homered in the win. Jack Wiessinger was credited with the win after fanning seven batters in 5.0 innings of work.

The Sagehens scored five in the second inning, with Jimmy Legg sending Xavier Hattenburg and Wakil home on an RBI double to right center. Gold then launched a three-run homer to make it 5-0.

Pomona-Pitzer kept its foot on the gas in the third, scoring 10 in the frame with four homeruns. Wakil got things started with a two-run shot to right center, before Hattenburg scored on an error and Legg posted an RBI single to score William Kinney. Gold, Berry and Lee then launched back-to-back-to-back homeruns, making it 13-0. Pierantoni notched an RBI double to right to then make it 15-0 Sagehens.

MIT got on the board in the fourth, scoring four in the inning. Ng homered in the bottom of the frame, then the Engineers hit a two-run shot in the fifth to make it 16-6. James Quintero hit a sac fly to right in the bottom of the fifth, scoring Justin Zerger. MIT added a run in the sixth before Zerger drove in Berry in the bottom of the frame to make it 18-7 Sagehens.

The Engineers added two runs in the seventh, but Pomona-Pitzer came away with the 18-9 win in a game that was determined beforehand to go to seven innings.

Sagehens 17, MIT 7

Pomona-Pitzer continued its hot start to the day in game two, as five different Sagehens recorded a multi-hit game. Berry led the way after going 3-for-4 with three RBIs, while JC Ng also posted three RBIs and Legg, Lee and Gold each had two. Jake Hilton earned the win from the mound after striking out five and allowing just two hits in 4.0 shutout innings.

The Sagehens wasted no time in jumping out in front, taking a 7-0 lead in the first. Pomona-Pitzer scored its first five runs off a series of bases-loaded passed balls, hit-by-pitches, walks and a Kinney sac fly. Legg then drove Hattenburg home on a sac fly of his own before Gold posted an RBI single to score Lee and make it 7-0 Sagehens.

The Sagehens mounted their lead in the third, with Legg and Gold trading RBIs before Berry hammered a two-run shot to right center to give the team an 11-0 lead. Wakil hit a sac fly to center in the fourth to score Ng, putting Pomona-Pitzer up 13-0.
