CLAREMONT, Calif. — Pomona-Pitzer baseball got back into the win column with a dominant 17-3 win over Whittier College in seven innings.
Season Impact: The win improves the Sagehens' record to 13-8 on the season, including 5-5 in SCIAC play.
Jake Hilton earned the win on the mound after striking out six and giving up just two runs in 5.1 innings of work.
JC Ng led Pomona-Pitzer offensively, going 3-3 from the plate with a three-run homer.
Xavier Hattenburg also went 3-3 with one RBI, while
Cooper Berry,
Greg Pierantoni and
Carson Evans each tallied two RBIs.
The Sagehens dominated from the get-go, with Evans doubling to right to drive in
Justin Zerger and
Jimmy Legg in the bottom of the second. Berry notched a two-run double of his own before Pierantoni posted a two-RBI single to left. Pierantoni later scored on a wild pitch, giving Pomona-Pitzer a 7-0 lead after two.
The bats continued to stay hot in the fourth, as the Sagehens scored eight in the frame to go up 15-0. Hattenburg, Legg, Zerger,
James Quintero and
Lateef Wakil each tallied RBIs in the frame before Ng blasted a three-run shot to right field. The Poets got three runs back in the sixth, bringing the score to 15-3.
Sammy Lee earned an RBI of his own in the bottom of the sixth, before
Ben Morgan hit a sac fly to score George Nahabidian, as the Sagehens came away with the 17-3 win in seven innings.
Up Next: Pomona-Pitzer will travel to take on Whittier in a doubleheader tomorrow, Saturday, Mar. 29. First pitch for the first game is scheduled for 11:00 p.m. PT.
