Sagehens End UM Inviational With 2-2 Record

ANN ARBOR, MI. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Water Polo team finished the UM Invitational with a 14-5 win over Mercyhurst and a 17-7 loss to Michigan on Sunday afternoon at the Canham Natatorium.
 
Season Impact: With the split, the Sagehens finished the UM Invitational 2-2 and move to 12-9 on the year.

The Sagehens were led by Lisbon Zeigler who netted a hat-trick with three goals in the win.  Sydney Bianchi, Natalie Sullivan Wu, and Brienz Lang had two while Kaylee Stigar, Gabby Lewis, Mia Amberger, Bella McGowan, and Paityn Richardson chipped in with one.
 
The Sagehens started with the first two goals of the game from Lang and Stigar to jump out to an early lead before Mercyhurst scored to make it 2-1.   The Sagehens then took a 4-1 lead after goals from Lewis and Bianchi while both teams added another goal to end the first with the Sagehens leading 5-2 after the first quarter.
 
Richardson, Lang and Amberger pushed the lead to 8-2 before Mercyhurst added back-to-back goals to cut the lead down to 8-4, but the Sagehens added one more before halftime from Sullivan Wu to take a 9-4 lead at the break.
 
Mercyhurst scored the opening goal of the half to get back within comeback range at 9-5, but the Sagehen defense shut out Mercyhurst for the rest of the game while the offense added five more goals from Sullivan Wu, Zeigler, and McGowan in the second half to earn their second win of the Michigan Invitational.

The Sagehens were led by Lang who had the only multi-goal game for the Sagehens in the loss while Bianchi, Sullivan Wu, Stigar, Amberger, and Gaither had one.
 
A slow start for the Sagehens against the Wolverines with Michigan jumping out to a 9-0 lead keeping the Sagehens scoreless throughout the first half.
 
Pomona-Pitzer scored their first goal to start the second half from Stigar while Gaither and Amberger also added a third-quarter goal to make it 12-3 heading into the fourth.
 
The Sagehens managed to put seven second half goals past the Wolverines and added four more in the fourth from Lang, Bianchi, and Sullivan Wu as the Sagehens ended the UM Invitational with a 2-2 record.
