LA VERNE, CA. – The No. 11 Pomona-Pitzer Baseball team fell in the opening game of their series 10-0 to No. 6 La Verne on Friday afternoon at Ben Hines Field.
Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens fall to 12-6 overall and 4-3 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens were held to just two hits in the game with
Greg Pierantoni and
Cooper Berry each earning a base hit in the loss.
Jake Hilton got the start and earned the loss 4.1 innings and five earned runs.
Pomona-Pitzer had runners on early in the game but couldn't grab the early lead as the two teams went scoreless through the first three innings. La Verne got on the board in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI single and then added five more in a big bottom of the fifth to take a 6-0 lead.
The Leopards added another big inning in the seventh where they scored four more to hit the 10-run rule in the seventh and take the opening game of the series.
