CLAREMONT, CA. – The No. 10 Pomona-Pitzer Lacrosse team came away with another ranked win after their 16-10 win over Trinity (CT) on Sunday afternoon at Merritt Field.
Season Impact: with the win, the Sagehens improved to 8-0 overall to start the year.
The Sagehens were led by
Fiona Lewis who had a huge game with six goals in the win.
Hannah Gough also netted a hat-trick with three while
Sydney Landauer and
Caili Cross had two and
Taylor Glanville,
Shoshi Henderson, and
River Buechner had one.
Pomona-Pitzer handedly defeated their NESCAC for at home and marks the first time in program history that the Sagehens have defeated a team from the NESCAC. The Sagehens got going early with the first two goals of the game as Glanville cashed in on a powerplay goal with Lewis getting her big day started to make it 2-0 within the first five minutes. The Sagehen defense did a good job holding the Trinity offense to just one goal in the first quarter as Gough ended the first with a goal to make it 3-1 heading into the second quarter.
The team traded goals to open the second as Lewis and Landauer got on the board to make it 5-3 with 8:22 left until halftime. The Sagehens ended the first half strong with the final three goals of the half from Lewis, Henderson and Buechner to take an 8-3 lead into the break.
Trinity came out strong in the second half with the opening two goal of the third to trim the lead down to 8-5. The Bantams won the quarter 4-2 but goals from Cross kept the Sagehens up 10-7 entering the fourth.
Gough and Lewis got the Sagehens' lead back to a comfortable mark at 12-7. Trinity fired back with a goal, but back-to-back goals from Gough and Lewis again gave the Sagehens a solid 14-8 lead with under nine minutes to play. Trinity got two more goals back to make it a four-goal game, but Lewis and Landauer capped off the day with goals in the fourth as the Sagehens get to 8-0 to start their season.
