CLAREMONT, CA. – The No. 10 Pomona-Pitzer Lacrosse team stayed perfect on the season with a ranked 14-10 win over No. 24 Chicago on Sunday afternoon at Merritt Field.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improved to 3-0 overall.
The Sagehens were led by
River Buechner who netted a hat-trick with four goals.
Taylor Glanville also netted a hat-trick with three goals while
Fiona Lewis had two and
Hannah Gough,
Grace Tighe,
Shoshi Henderson,
Sydney Landauer, and
Caili Cross had one.
A great start for the Sagehens to open the game as Gough took the faceoff and scored within the first 30 seconds to put the Sagehens up 1-0. The Maroons responded with two goals to take their first lead of the game while a quiet first quarter ended with two goals from each team as Henderson scored in the final minute to make it 2-2 heading into the second.
Landauer and Cross got the Sagehens back up momentarily before Chicago came back with three of their own to make a 5-4 lead with 2:05 left before halftime. Each team got one more goal in as Glanville found the back of the net to cut the deficit down to one goal heading into halftime down 6-5.
Chicago still held the advantage through the third quarter outscoring the Sagehens 4-3 in the third. Buechner and Glanville added goals for the Sagehens but Chicago lead heading into the fourth, 10-8.
The Sagehen offense came alive during the fourth while the defense shut out the Maroons in the fourth. Buechner started out the fourth with an early goal to cut the deficit down to one goal at 10-9 while Tighe converted off of a powerplay to tie the game at 10-0 with 12:55 to play. It was all Sagehens after that as Glanville scored the go-ahead goal while Buechner and two from Lewis capped off the ranked win for the Sagehens at home.
