Women’s Basketball Ends Regular Season With Win at La Verne

LA VERNE, Calif. — The Pomona-Pitzer women's basketball team defeated La Verne 78-65 on Saturday afternoon in La Verne.
 
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens have clinched the No. 4 spot in the SCIAC tournament and are 13-12 overall and 8-8 in SCIAC play.
 
Emily Lee led the way for the Sagehens with 22 points shooting 8-13 from the field and 6-11 from beyond the arc. Jadyn Lee had a double-double scoring 18 points with ten rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Abigail Homan also scored in the double digits with 15 points and three assists.
 
With six three-pointers in today's game, Emily Lee officially became the program's all-time leader in three-point makes. 
 
The Sagehens and Leopards went back and forth throughout the first quarter, exchanging baskets in a tightly contested start that featured five lead changes and four ties. Lee led the way for the Sagehens, scoring eight quick points while also recording two steals. At the end of the quarter, the Sagehens trailed 16-19 heading into the second.
 
The Sagehens put together a strong second quarter, led by Jadyn Lee's dominant presence on both ends of the floor. Lee opened the quarter with a layup and Abigail Homan followed with another one off an assist from Shea Joko, keeping the Sagehens within striking distance. Lee continued to be a force, hitting a few jumpers and Emily Lee provided a spark from deep, nailing a three-pointer at 5:23 off an assist from Jadyn Lee. With just under 30 seconds left, J. Lee scored her 16th point of the half making the score 38-37 with the Sagehens on top. With two seconds left, La Verne was able to get to the hoop making the score 39-38 in favor of the Leopards at the end of the first half. 
 
Pomona-Pitzer made a strong push in the third quarter, with E.Lee hitting a pair of clutch three-pointers, finishing the quarter with 17 points on the game. Elsa Cottrell also made her presence known, scoring on multiple layups and contributing at the free-throw line. Defensively, Jadyn Lee and Emily Lee controlled the boards, each grabbing multiple rebounds to limit La Verne's second-chance opportunities. The Sagehens entered the fourth quarter with momentum. The score after the third was 65-52, Sagehens on top. 
 
Pomona-Pitzer closed out a strong fourth quarter to secure a 78-65 victory over the Leopards. Emily Lee hit crucial three-pointers and finished at the rim while Homan also delivered in the clutch, knocking down key free throws and a turnaround jumper to keep the lead. The Sagehens end the regular season with a win and look to carry the momentum into the postseason.
 
Up Next: The Sagehens will open up the first round of SCIAC tournament play as the fourth seed and will take on the fifth seed (TBD) at home on Tuesday, February 25th at 7:00 p.m.
