CLAREMONT, Calif. — Pomona-Pitzer baseball defeated Chapman in both games of its doubleheader with the Panthers Saturday, completing the 3-0 weekend sweep.
Season Impact: The wins improve the Sagehens' record to 6-2 on the season, including 3-0 in SCIAC play.
Sagehens 11, Chapman 10
Pomona-Pitzer got out to an early 4-0 lead, lost it but eventually held on for a back-and-forth 11-10 win in game one.
Jack Gold,
JC Ng and
Lateef Wakil each homered in the game. Ng went 2-3 with three RBIs while Gold went 3-4 with a pair of RBIs.
Ethan Collins was credited with the win in his start, going 5.0 innings with seven strikeouts.
Wade Lawson picked up his first save of the season.
Ng started the game with a leadoff bomb to put the Sagehens up 1-0 in the first. Pierantoni then scored off a Gold double before Gold touched home following a
Peter Savas RBI. Gold then homered in the third, putting Pomona-Pitzer up 4-0.
Chapman responded with three runs in the fourth, then three more in the fifth with a three-run homer to take a 6-4 lead. But the Sagehens scored five runs of their own in the fifth to go back up 9-6, as
William Kinney and Ng picked up RBIs in the frame.
The Panthers came back within a run, 9-8, in the sixth. But a two-run Wakil homerun in the bottom of the inning put Pomona-Pitzer back up 11-8. Chapman tallied a two-run shot in the top of the ninth but it wasn't enough, as the Sagehens held on for the 11-10 win.

Pomona-Pitzer again got out to an early 6-0 lead and never looked back, eventually sealing the 16-6 win in seven innings. Kinney led the Sagehens after going 3-4 from the plate with three RBIs, while Gold added three RBIs of his own.
Will Polishuk picked up the win after going 4.0 innings to start, fanning two and allowing just two hits.
With the bases loaded and Pomona-Pitzer already leading 1-0 in the first, Savas doubled to right center to send Pierantoni and
Cooper Berry home. Wakil then singled to center to score Gold, making it 4-0 Sagehens. Gold added to the team's lead in the second with a two-run shot, as Pomona-Pitzer enjoyed a 6-0 advantage.
Chapman responded with three runs in the fourth, but RBIs from Kinney and Legg put the Sagehens back up 8-3 in the fourth. Pomona-Pitzer continued its dominance in the fifth, scoring six runs in the frame with RBIs from
Xavier Hattenburg, Kinney and a two-run homer from Ng.
The Panthers added three runs in the sixth, making it 14-6 Sagehens, but RBIs from Wakil and Kinney in the bottom of the frame gave Pomona-Pitzer a 10-run lead, 16-6.
Lucas Dennis fanned a pair of batters in the top of the seventh as the Sagehens earned the 16-6 win in seven innings.
Up Next: The Sagehens will take on Redlands in a three-game series next weekend, first hosting the Bulldogs on Friday, Feb. 28, at 2:00 p.m. at Alumni Field.
