Jadyn Lee’s Late-Game Heroics Lift Sagehens to Senior Night Win Over Occidental

CLAREMONT, Calif. — Jadyn Lee scored the game-tying three-pointer with 10 seconds left in regulation and led Pomona-Pitzer women's basketball to a 60-54 win over Occidental Wednesday night at Voelkel Gymnasium.

Season Impact: The win improves the Sagehens' record to 12-12 on the season, including 7-8 in SCIAC play.

Jadyn Lee scored a game-high 23 points on 11-of-21 shooting, adding six rebounds and three assists. Abigail Homan posted 11 points and nine rebounds and Shea Joko added seven points and four rebounds as Pomona-Pitzer prevailed over the Tigers in overtime on senior night.

Trailing 47-44 with 17 seconds remaining, the Sagehens looked to get Jadyn Lee the ball coming out of a timeout. Jadyn Lee fed the ball to Homan at the high post, cut towards the basket before getting the ball back from Homan at the top of the key. With 11 seconds left and an open look, Jadyn Lee drilled the three-pointer to tie the game at 47, ultimately forcing overtime.

Jadyn Lee continued her heroics into the overtime period, scoring the team's first basket before finding Homan for a three to give the Sagehens a 52-49 lead. Emily Lee hit a three of her own before Jadyn Lee scored another jumper to make it 57-53 Pomona-Pitzer. The Sagehen defense held strong down the stretch, and the team knocked down three of its final four free throw attempts to seal the 60-54 win over Occidental in overtime.

Teams traded baskets to start the game, with Homan scoring in the paint to make it 7-7 early. Joko and Jadyn Lee traded jumpers as the Sagehens trailed 12-11 at the end of the first quarter. Jadyn Lee hit another jumper midway through the second before another Homan lay-in tied the game at 19. Elsa Cottrell scored a put-back layup before Jadyn Lee scored a fast break lay-in, as Pomona-Pitzer led 25-22 at the half.

The Tigers came out hot to start the third quarter, taking an early 34-29 lead. But another Cottrell lay-in and a Kayla Malek triple tied things up at 34. Jadyn Lee and Homan traded baskets midway through the fourth to give the Sagehens a 40-39 advantage. Jadyn Lee scored another jumper to make it 44-43 with 3:34 remaining in regulation.

After the Tigers added a pair of free throws with 2:34 to go, neither team could score a basket until Occidental added to its lead, 47-44, with 17 seconds remaining on a Paige Yasukochi layup. Jadyn Lee then came through in the clutch, as the Sagehens would go on to force overtime and ultimately come away with the 60-54 win.
