Sagehens Fall In Top 25 Match Against SDSU

SAN DIEGO, CA. – The No. 23 Pomona-Pitzer Women's Water Polo team fell in a close top-25 matchup 13-10 against No. 21 San Diego State on Saturday afternoon at the Aztec Aquaplex.
 
Season Impact: with the loss, the Sagehens fall to 2-2 overall.
 
The Sagehens were led by Brienz Lang who netted a hat-trick in the loss while Peyton Richardson also had a multi-goal game with two. Sydney Bianchi, Ayva Magna, Lisbon Zeigler, Layla Szymczak, and Gabby Lewis all got on the scoresheet as well with one.  
 
The first quarter set the tone for the game, with SDSU jumping out to an early lead thanks to goals from Rose Kanemy and Sofia Righetti. Pomona-Pitzer responded with goals from Zeigler, Magna, and Szymczak, but found themselves trailing 4-3 at the end of the first period.
 
SDSU continued to build their lead in the second quarter, scoring three goals, including two from Amanda Chambers. Pomona-Pitzer managed to find the back of the net twice with goals from Lang and Bianchi but went into halftime down 7-5.
 
The third quarter was a high-scoring affair, with both teams exchanging goals. SDSU got the better of the Sagehens in the third with four while goals from Lewis and Richardson had the Sagehens trailing 11-7 heading into the fourth.
 
The Sagehens rallied in the fourth quarter, scoring three goals, with Lang finding the net twice, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Aztecs as the Sagehens suffered their second loss of the season.
 
Up Next: The Sagehens will next compete in the Barbara Kalbus Tournament on February 21st – 23rd.
