CLAREMONT, Calif. — Despite a game-high 25 points from
Jadyn Lee, Pomona-Pitzer women's basketball fell 68-61 at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Saturday afternoon on the road.
Season Impact: The loss drops the Sagehens to 11-12 on the season, including 6-8 in SCIAC play.
Jadyn Lee scored 25 points on 10-of-13 shooting, adding eight rebounds, two assists and two blocks.
Abigail Homan contributed 21 points with six rebounds, while
Emily Lee scored seven points and three rebounds.
Teams traded baskets to start the game, with Homan scoring back-to-back buckets in the paint to make it 9-8 for the Athenas. But CMS scored the next seven points, taking a 16-8 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Athenas then went up 25-13 before the Sagehens answered with a run of their own, with a
Charlize Andaya triple and a pair of free throws from
Charlotte Patel making it 25-20. But the Athenas proceeded to end the half on a 7-2 run, taking a 32-22 lead into the locker room.
Emily Lee and
Jadyn Lee traded baskets early in the second half but CMS used a 7-0 run to go up 43-30. Homan scored a pair of layups and
Jadyn Lee hit a jumper off a Homan assist, as the Athenas led 50-44 at the end of the third quarter.
Pomona-Pitzer kept things close in the fourth, with
Jadyn Lee scoring back-to-back baskets to make it 53-51 CMS.
Jadyn Lee later knocked down a triple and
Kayla Malek added a free throw, bringing the score to 60-57 for the Athenas with 1:49 to go. Homan hit a jumper with 1:15 left to then make it 62-59. But that was as close as the Sagehens would get, as CMS knocked down their free throws down the stretch to seal the 68-61 win.
